Getting a Burning Permit will be a 2 step process:
- The applicant submits the request.
- The clerk issues and approves the permit before any burning is allowed.
How to Request a Burning Permit
1. Submit the Form:
- Complete the online form at least one business day before the first day you plan to burn.
- Your permit will be valid for seven consecutive days starting from that date.
- A $5 fee is required per permit.
- You must contact Buffalo County daily at 608-685-4433 to verify that no burn ban or restrictions are in place even after receiving a permit.
2. Permit Review
- The City Clerk will review your request to ensure compliance with Ordinance #35A.
- Burn piles may not exceed 100 square feet in size.
- Prohibited materials include: plastics, garbage, painted/treated wood, furniture, rubber, and asphalt products.
3. Permit Approval:
- Once your permit application is approved, you will receive the official permit via email. If you do not have access to email, please come to City Hall to pick up your permit in person.
- Do not begin burning until you have received your approved permit.
- Keep the permit with you while burning.
