Enclosed with the tax statements, the city has compiled a small list of reminders.

Alternate Side Parking: in effect on Hill Street between Eagle Street and Hwy 95/North Street -AND- Main Street between Spring Street and Hwy 95/North Street until March 31 during a snow event. A snow event is snowfall during any period of 24 hours or less which reaches a depth of 2” or more as reported or predicted by the National Weather Service. On odd-numbered days vehicles shall only be parked on that side of the street and on even-numbered days vehicles shall only be parked on that side of the street (only during snow events). Violations are subject to fines and towing.

Snow Removal by Property Owners: it is the duty of the property owner to remove snow from their sidewalk within twelve hours after it has ceased to snow. Failure to do so will result in the city removing the snow at the expense of the property owner.

Christmas Tree Pickup: Trees placed on the curb the week of January 2 will be picked up by the public works staff.

Open Gym Nights: open gym begins December 5th at the Fountain City Auditorium. The gym is open to the public for recreation on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30 pm. Clean gym shoes are required. Activities include basketball, volleyball, pickleball, etc.

The Nook Community Library: open during open gym hours as noted above. On your honor checkout and return.

Sidewalks: must be kept free and clear of weeds and litter. Trees, shrubbery or vines must be trimmed for clearance per Ordinance #60.

Building Permits: required for improvements valued at over $500 including any building structure, enlargement, alteration, heating or ventilation installation, moving or demolishing, or anything affecting the fire hazards or safety of any building or structure. Permit applications are available at City Hall or on the city website. Commercial properties are required to apply with the WI Dept. of Safety & Professional Services for alterations before the city can issue a building permit.

Dog Licenses: Dogs must be licensed annually by April 1st. Proof of rabies vaccination must be included with the application. Fees are: $10 spayed/neutered, $15 unaltered. Application forms are available at City Hall or on the city website. Pets must be on a leash when not on the premises of the owner. Any animal excrement deposited on property other than the owner must be picked up immediately and disposed of properly.

Garbage Pickup: Garbage pickup is every Wednesday. Garbage bags should be placed on the curb by 7:00 a.m. on pickup day. Waste Transport garbage bags are available for purchase at City Hall and Kwik Trip for $4.00/bag. Regular bags are not acceptable. Placing garbage on the sidewalk or curb longer than 24 hours prior to pickup is in violation of city ordinance and is subject to fines.

2023 Recycling Information: recycling information will be included with the utility bill in January.

Burning Permits: available for brush type material only for a $5 fee. Permits can be obtained by contacting the Fire Chief. Recreational backyard campfires are allowed when using a campfire ring or like container. Burning of trash, cardboard, or any non-firewood material is prohibited.

Parking: Parking in Excess of 48 hours is prohibited. No person shall park any vehicle on any City Street or Lot or on any other public or private property within the City Limits, without the permission of the owner of such property, for more than Forty-Eight (48) consecutive hours. Violations are subject to towing and fines.
Junk Vehicles – Junked motor vehicles and nuisance vehicles are prohibited on property within the City Limits unless located within a fully enclosed building. Violations are subject to fines.
